Not many can claim to have pulled lava from a live volcano with their own two hands or get to play with lava on a regular basis. Fortunately, I can, and I do! A big perk of my “9 to 5” is traveling to incredible locations. I am a geologist and a photographer who loves capturing moments in time of nature and landscapes. I find inspiration in nature, aiming to create photos that engage viewers and evoke emotions. I craft visually appealing images through stylistic choices in exposure, color, and composition. Unlike adding paint to a canvas, photography is a subtractive medium. I strip away distracting elements until those that remain harmonize with one another. Where the science of everyday can be rigid and calculated, photography allows me to be creative. I am a chaser of light, light that will add depth and interest to my photos and help guide viewers through the story they tell. Like Ansel Adams, I strive to showcase the beauty of nature and promote conservation through my art, not as a record-keeper behind a lens, but rather offering an artist’s perspective.
